Celebrate National Public Works Week May 19 at Great Park

Celebrate National Public Works Week with the City of Irvine at a free public event Thursday, May 19, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., at Great Park Hangar 244. 

Guests will learn what the City of Irvine Public Works & Transportation Department does for our community, residents, and businesses; get an up-close view of equipment including excavators, backhoes, and construction trucks; and have the opportunity to talk to staff to hear more about careers in the field of Public Works.

City of Irvine Ranked 8th in National 2022 ParkScore Index

For the seventh consecutive year, the City of Irvine park system has been ranked among the top 10 in the nation by the Trust for Public Land.

Irvine ranked eighth in the country and second in California in the national nonprofit’s annual ParkScore Index, which is recognized as the national gold-standard comparison of park systems across the 100 most populated cities in the United States. The index is based on factors including park access, acreage, investment, and amenities.

Book Launch Celebration: "Chinese-Americans in Irvine 1971–2021"

The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center (SCCCC) and the City of Irvine will host a book launch celebration for Chinese-Americans in Irvine 1971–2021. The free event will take place Wednesday, May 4, at City Hall. The reception will begin at 5 p.m., and the formal program will start at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

In partnership with the City of Irvine, Waste Management is hosting a free paper shredding event Saturday, August 20, at the Lakeview Senior Center. Irvine residents can safely and securely dispose of up to five banker-size file boxes (dimensions: 24 inches x 12 inches) at a mobile shredding unit on-site. The event is first-come, first-served, and will end when truck capacity is reached. Customers who wish to watch their paper be shredded will need to park in a designated area away from the truck and staff.

The City of Irvine invites the community to the inaugural Pride in Irvine event Sunday, May 22, 9–10:30 a.m., at the Irvine Civic Center Piazza. The gathering will feature the raising of the Progress Flag in front of City Hall in honor of Harvey Milk Day, and in preparation for June Pride Month.

Local organizations representing the LGBTQ+ community will provide educational activities and information. Visitors will enjoy refreshments while learning about and celebrating Pride Month at this free event.
