Irvine, Calif. (December 27, 2024) – A driver has died after being involved in a single-vehicle traffic collision.
Last night, at 10:23 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) received reports of a traffic collision on Bonita Canyon Drive under the State Route 73 (SR-73) Toll Road overpass.

The City of Irvine was awarded a Top Workplaces 2024 honor, ranking 11th among large companies with 500 or more employees in The Orange County Register’s 17th annual list of Top Workplaces.
This is the fourth consecutive year the City has received this prestigious recognition, which celebrates organizations that have built an outstanding company culture. Irvine, the only Orange County municipality among 152 companies on the list, moved up from 14th place last year to 11th this year.

At a special meeting December 12, the Irvine City Council voted unanimously to withdraw from the Orange County Power Authority (OCPA) in 2025, and directed numerous changes to the City’s relationship with the agency in the meantime.
Irvine City Manager Oliver C. Chi has announced several key executive appointments that will strengthen the City’s ability to advance strategic projects and initiatives, including building the Great Park, addressing the community’s health and wellness needs, and executing the City’s economic development strategy to ensure Irvine continues to offer an exceptional quality of life.

In partnership with the City of Irvine, Waste Management is hosting a free paper-shredding event Saturday, January 25, 9–11 a.m. at Lakeview Senior Center. Irvine residents can safely and securely dispose of up to five banker-size file boxes. The event is first-come, first-served and will end early if truck capacity is reached. Customers who wish to watch their paper be shredded will need to park in a designated area away from the truck and staff.

The evening was a historic milestone for Irvine as the first swearing-in ceremony following Irvine’s transition to district-based elections.
