Irvine Child Care Project Seeks Licensed Nonprofit Child Care Providers

The Irvine Child Care Project, a joint power authority between the Irvine Unified School District and the City of Irvine, is requesting proposals from licensed nonprofit child care providers interested in operating a child care program at Eastwood Village Elementary School beginning Aug. 24, 2017.

The selected provider will operate a program providing child care services for children from kindergarten through sixth grade, utilizing leased space from the Irvine Child Care Project. The program would serve between 70-100 children daily (105 maximum licensed capacity).

Memorial Day Ceremony

The City of Irvine will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony in the Formal Garden. Attendees will have the opportunity to memorialize our troop’s sacrifice by writing down a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board at the event. Cards will also be available for well-wishers to send a message of appreciation and support to members of Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion.

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for Americans to honor those who have given their lives while defending our nation. In partnership with the Northwood Memorial Committee, a special Dedication Ceremony of the expansion of the Memorial will be held at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial. Program will include presentations by Gold Star families. Please bring a lawn chair or blankets for seating.

The Irvine Fine Arts Center will host the 23rd annual Studio Arts Festival. The juried festival will showcase more than 85 Southern California artists and their original works of art in ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber and glass. The festival will also feature music, art demonstrations and food, including ice cream sundaes served in handmade collectible ceramic bowls. Admission and parking are free. Irvine Police Arrest Jeweler Who Stole Customers' Rings

Irvine, Calif. (Feb. 2, 2017) – The Irvine Police Department on Thursday arrested Daniel Cervantes, 27, on seven counts of grand theft after he stole wedding and engagement rings from his customers.

Victims of Double Homicide Identified

Irvine, Calif. (Feb. 1, 2017) – The Irvine Police Department has worked with the Orange County Coroner’s Office to confirm the identities of the victims in yesterday’s double homicide on Crystal Circle in Irvine. The victims have been identified as Gloria Pillay, 58, and Arlyn Pillay, 35. The victims were the mother and brother of suspect Nolan Pascal Pillay, who remains in custody. There are no other suspects in this case, and there is no danger to the community.

Registration Open for Irvine Junior Games

Online registration continues through February 22 for the 32nd Annual Junior Games at Irvine Stadium, a track and field fundraising event. The Games will be held 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, May 5. Athletes who attend the Irvine Unified School District are eligible and it is open to students in fourth through eighth grade. Money raised goes to the Irvine Children’s Fund, a nonprofit organization supporting the Irvine Child Care Project in cooperation with the Irvine Unified School District. Entry fee is $40.

The 30th Annual Irvine Junior Games will take place on Sunday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Irvine Stadium. The annual track-and-field event is open to Irvine Unified School District students in grades 4 through 8, and is a key fundraising effort for the Irvine Children’s Fund, which provides scholarships for before- and after-school child care to low-income working families in the school district.
