In an ongoing effort to promote voter registration and participation, the City of Irvine encourages all eligible residents who are not registered to vote to do so by May 21.  By registering to vote, qualified voters can participate in the June 5 Special Municipal Election that has been consolidated with the Statewide Direct Primary. In honor of Memorial Day, Irvine Animal Care Center is waiving adoption fees for veterans Friday, May 25, through Sunday, May 27. The program is made possible through the Animals for Armed Forces Foundation, which is covering adoption fees for the veterans.

Irvine, Calif. (May 2, 2018) – The Irvine Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who stole medication and other high-value items from Irvine CVS stores.

On April 24 around 7:30 p.m., the suspect entered the store at 17625 Harvard Ave. and stole $5,000 worth of merchandise. The store manager observed the suspect and recognized her as the unidentified individual who has been seen stealing from CVS locations across Orange County.

The City of Irvine is hosting two Memorial Day events to pay tribute to America’s fallen: the Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, May 27, and the annual Memorial Day Celebration at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park on Monday, May 28. Irvine, Calif. (April 26, 2018) –  The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will conduct a sobriety checkpoint as part of the department’s continued commitment to reducing injuries and deaths caused by impaired drivers. The checkpoint will be conducted Friday, April 27, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the area of Alton and Gateway.

Irvine, Calif. (April 25, 2018) – Today, the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office and the Sacramento County Sheriff announced the arrest of Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, in a cold case referred to as the East Area Rapist, also known as the Original Night Stalker or the Golden State Killer. The East Area Rapist is linked to 12 homicides and 45 rapes over the past four decades. The person who committed these heinous crimes is believed to be the perpetrator of two homicides in Irvine in the 1980s.
