Adults and children of all swimming abilities are invited to participate in the Super Swim Lesson, a worldwide effort to raise awareness for drowning prevention. Arrive at 5:30 p.m. to sign up for the one-time lesson to be held at 6 p.m., then stay for the free recreation swim that includes a water slide, giant inflatable and diving boards. At dusk, the movie Despicable Me 3 plays on the big screen.

Lifeguards will be on duty. For recreation swim, children 6 and younger must be accompanied by an adult one-on-one in the water. Ages 3+.

UCI Doctoral Student Teams with IPD to Study Factors that Influence Perception of Police

Irvine, Calif. (April 18, 2018) – The public’s perception of police is impacted by attire and other factors, a recent study found. The Irvine Police Department (IPD) partnered with University of California, Irvine doctoral candidate Rylan Simpson to examine how attire and patrol strategy esthetics impact people’s perceptions of the police. Simpson’s Police Officer Perception Project, or P.O.P.P., was published in the Journal of Experimental Criminology, with a second article featured in Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice.

Present Tense: UCI Graduate Student Exhibition Opens April 27 at Irvine Fine Arts Center

The Irvine Fine Arts Center announces the opening of its latest exhibition, Present Tense: UCI Graduate Student Exhibition, running Friday, April 27-Saturday, May 26. An opening reception is April 27, 6-8 p.m.

The exhibition presents a selection of works by current first- and second-year Master of Fine Arts students at the UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Artwork includes painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, video and site-specific installations.

The City of Irvine does not provide emergency shelter for the homeless population and there is no designated site in which to place a shelter.
