Winter Exhibitions at Irvine Fine Arts Center Begin November 17

The Irvine Fine Arts Center announces the opening of two winter exhibitions, one examining changing familial relationships and the other exploring physicality and the body. The exhibitions run concurrently Saturday, November 17–Saturday, January 19. A free reception open to the public is Saturday, November 17, 4–6 p.m.

Irvine Civic Center Transforms Into a Winter Wonderland for 2018 Holiday Season

Celebrate the season as the Irvine Civic Center transforms into a Winter Wonderland from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 2.

The free event will feature a 25-foot-tall live tree adorned with ornaments and holiday lights, a Joyful Jingles holiday program, children’s activities, a holiday puppet show, and story time with Mrs. Claus. Guests can enjoy refreshments from mobile food trucks. At 5 p.m., there will be a festive tree-lighting ceremony that includes “snow” falling over the piazza. Children are also in for a special treat when Santa stops by for a visit.

Long-term Financial Planning and Transparency

This month, the City Council will consider a significant change to how Irvine prepares and approves its budget. The City’s first-ever two-year budget, developed in the context of a comprehensive five-year financial plan, will be before the City Council at its November 27 meeting. A first review will be before the Finance Commission at its November 5 meeting; the Commission also is expected to provide input to planned Community Budget Workshop locations scheduled for early in 2019.

Reward Matched; Now $10,000 in Case of Vandalism at Synagogue

On Tuesday, November 13, the Irvine City Council approved a motion by Mayor Don Wagner to contribute $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect who vandalized Beth Jacob Congregation last month. The reward matches the $5,000 reward offered previously by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), bringing the total to $10,000.

Vandalism at Synagogue in Irvine

Irvine, Calif.  (October 31, 2018) – Around 9 a.m. this morning, a passerby notified the Irvine Police Department that an anti-Semitic comment had been spray painted along the exterior wall of the Beth Jacob Synagogue, located at 3900 Michelson Drive in Irvine. Based upon the preliminary investigation, it appears the vandalism occurred during the early morning hours of October 31.

The Irvine Police Department is working closely with the leadership of Beth Jacob Synagogue to aggressively investigate this hate crime.
